Legal Victories
We've been busy at the office, continuing to deliver justice and resolve cases with excellent results. Here are a few highlights from recent weeks:
We settled a major civil rights violations case against the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
We filed a civil rights violation against the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department because one of their officers raped our client.
Less than a week before we were scheduled for a jury trial on a bank embezzlement case, we got a dismissal. I told the prosecutors about a year ago, they didn’t have the evidence or the witnesses to make their case. I guess they finally realized it a few days before the trial.
Last month, I had another successful criminal jury trial. Additionally, I had several criminal battery cases dismissed. I’m starting the year off earning my name, The Battery Man!!!
!
We are interested in hiring an Associate Attorney. So, if you know someone looking, please have them contact our office at 317-219-3402.
⚖️ 10 Criminal Defense FAQs
What should I do if I am arrested?
Stay calm and polite. Do not resist arrest. Request an attorney immediately and exercise your right to remain silent until your lawyer is present.
What is the difference between a felony and a misdemeanor?
Felonies are more serious crimes that carry harsher penalties, including longer prison sentences. Misdemeanors are less severe, leading to shorter jail time or fines.
Can a criminal charge be dropped before trial?
Yes, charges can be dropped if your attorney successfully argues lack of evidence, procedural errors, or enters into negotiations with the prosecutor.
How does a plea bargain work?
A plea bargain involves the defendant agreeing to plead guilty to a crime (often lesser charge) in exchange for a lighter sentence or the dismissal of other charges.
What is the statute of limitations for criminal charges?
The statute of limitations varies by crime and jurisdiction. It defines the period within which charges must be filed, beyond which they cannot proceed.
Can I represent myself in a criminal case?
While you have the right to self-representation, it is generally not recommended due to the complexities of the legal system. Professional legal representation typically results in more favorable outcomes.
What factors influence sentencing in a criminal case?
Sentencing depends on factors such as the nature of the crime, severity, prior criminal history, mitigating or aggravating circumstances, and the judge's discretion.
What happens during an arraignment?
An arraignment is the first court appearance where charges are formally read, and the defendant enters a plea. Bail conditions may also be set at this time.
Can a defense attorney help if I'm guilty?
Yes, a defense attorney ensures your rights are protected, fight to get your case dismissed, works to negotiate a fair plea deal, seeks sentence reductions, or explore alternative sentencing options.
What are my rights if my case goes to trial?
You have the right to a fair trial, which includes the right to an attorney, the right to confront witnesses, the right to present evidence, and the right to remain silent.

Celebrating Black History Month: Embrace Diversity and Historical Contributions
Black History Month is more than just a moment in time; it's a celebration of diversity and the profound historical contributions of African Americans. Throughout the month of February, we recognize and honor the pivotal roles and accomplishments of African American individuals in shaping the cultural and historical landscape of our nation. This observance not only enhances our cultural awareness but also educates future generations about the significance of African American history.
The roots of Black History Month trace back to 1926, when historian Carter G. Woodson established "Negro History Week." Fast forward to today, and the celebration has expanded to a month-long observance, underscoring the importance of remembering and learning from the past. As trusted advisors and advocates, we encourage everyone to delve deeper into African American history and explore its impact on modern society.
Engaging with History
Understanding and acknowledging the historical contributions of African Americans is crucial in promoting cultural awareness and fostering a more inclusive society. This Black History Month, we challenge you to engage with the rich tapestry of stories and achievements that comprise African American history. Whether you're an educator, student, or simply curious, there are countless ways to deepen your understanding and appreciation.
Consider attending local events, reading literature by African American authors, or participating in discussions that highlight diverse perspectives. Your journey in exploring African American history can start with a single step. As experienced experts and compassionate advocates, we stand ready to support you in this endeavor. Feel empowered to reach out for legal consultation or guidance if you find yourself needing assistance in this journey of discovery.
Together, let's make this Black History Month a time of learning, reflection, and action.
